2012 Annual Meeting program

Dr Angela Enright Lecture

(formerly known as the Royal College Lecture)

The title of this year’s inaugural lecture is Global Challenges in Anesthesia. Dr Angela Enright will discuss issues facing anesthesiologists around the world, especially those in low and middle income countries. The lecture will also showcase work being done by organizations such as the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists to improve anesthesia care and patient safety.

A former president of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society, Dr Enright has received numerous awards, the most recent being an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2010. She was elected president of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists in 2008. As past chair of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society International Education Foundation, she has worked on several anesthesia initiatives in different countries. The most recent project is leadership of the Lifebox project, raising funds to support a pulse oximetry educational project in Rwanda.

Competitions and Awards

The best abstracts submitted to the 2012 meeting will be presented at the Residents’ Competition and the Richard Knill Research Competition. At the Awards Ceremony on Monday afternoon, the CAS will recognize the winners of these competitions, present research awards and honour colleagues of exceptional accomplishment and contribution.

Francophone Track

A French language education track will take place during the conference.

Residents’ Track

The educational program is tailored specifically to Resident interests, with ample opportunities for Residents to learn and discuss ideas. The focus of the track is to facilitate communication and interaction between Canadian Residents and to establish a forum for organizing effective Resident representation in CAS.

Poster Displays and Discussions

Delegates are encouraged to visit the poster areas throughout the meeting. Poster session discussions, for both abstracts and case reports/series, will be held on Sunday and Monday. Poster Displays will be available in the Exhibit Hall during Exhibit Hours.
