  CAS MEMBERSHIP HONOUR AWARDS

GOLD MEDAL 

The Gold Medal is the highest award of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society. It is an inscribed medal given in
recognition of excellence in a career in service to anesthesiology.

ELIGIBILITY
The Gold Medal may be awarded to an individual, ordinarily a Canadian, active or retired, who has made a significant
contribution to anesthesia in Canada through teaching, research, professional practice, or administration and
leadership.

CLINICAL TEACHER AWARD

To recognize excellence in the teaching of clinical anesthesia.

ELIGIBILITY
This award is given to an Active member of the CAS who has made a significant contribution to the teaching of anesthesia in Canada.

JOHN BRADLEY YOUNG EDUCATOR AWARD 

To recognize excellence and effectiveness in education in anesthesia.

ELIGIBILITY
This award is given to an Active member of the CAS in the first ten years of practice who has made significant
contributions to the education of students and residents in anesthesia in Canada.

CLINICAL PRACTITIONER AWARD

To recognize excellence in clinical anesthesia practice.

ELIGIBILITY
This award is given to a member of the CAS who has made a significant contribution to the practice of clinical anesthesia in Canada.

EMERITUS MEMBERSHIP AWARD

To recognize individuals retired from clinical practice who, during their careers, made a significant contribution to anesthesia.

ELIGIBILITY
This award is given to a current member of the CAS in any category who has been a member of the Society for 25 years or more and has retired from clinical practice.

RESEARCH RECOGNITION AWARD

This award is administered at the same time as CAS Honour Awards but is judged by the Research Advisory Committee. It is presented by the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society to honour a senior investigator who has made major contributions to anesthesia research in Canada.



NOMINATION AND SELECTION INFORMATION

Unless otherwise specified, the following applies to all awards:

  • Nominations must be submitted electronically in the form of a written submission by two Active members (unless otherwise specified) to the CAS President. A primary (corresponding) nominator must be identified and submit a nomination letter, co-signed by a supporting nominator. A maximum of two additional letters of support will be accepted.
       - Note: for the Clinical Teacher and John Bradley Young Education Awards, one of the letters of support must come    from a current trainee.

  • Nominations must contain appropriate supporting documentation including the nominee’s curriculum vitae. Please send materials as original PDF or Word files, not scans. Please order documents as follows:
       1) Main nomination letter
       2) Supporting Letters
       3) CV of nominee

  • Note: For the Research Recognition Award, Nominations must have letters from at least three (no limit) sponsors plus a copy of the current CV of the nominee. Please submit as a single PDF or Word format file to the attention of the Chair of the CAS Research Advisory Committee c/o president@cas.ca.

  • Each nomination will be held active for a period of up to five years and will be reviewed annually. The primary nominator will be contacted to provide updated materials (especially a CV), every two years. At the end of five years, a nomination will become inactive, but a new nomination may be resubmitted.
       • Note: For the Emeritus Membership Award, each nomination will be held indefinitely.

  • Nominees must be living at the time nominations are considered.

  • Ineligible:
       • Members of the Board of the Society are not eligible to receive awards during and three years after their terms.
       • Nominations are judged by the CAS Executive Committee; therefore, CAS Executive members may not contribute to a    nomination.

  • Nominees must be living at the time nominations are considered.
