Dr Kathryn Sparrow is an Associate Professor at Memorial University of Newfoundland's Discipline of Anesthesia. She is an anesthesiologist at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador. Following Anesthesiology training at Memorial University of Newfoundland, she completed an Airway Fellowship at Dalhousie University in 2016 and an MScHQ at Queen's University in 2018. Dr Sparrow is the current Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society and Canadian Journal of Anesthesia CPD Editor. She is the former Chair of the Canadian Anesthetic Incident Reporting System, a member of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee, and she serves as the Memorial University Faculty of Medicine Postgraduate Medical Education QI/QA Educational Director. Her areas of interest include healthcare and quality improvement, patient safety, quality metrics, and airway management.

Dr Donald Young is a staff anesthesiologist at Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital, where he has practiced since 2016. Originally from Chilliwack, British Columbia, he earned his medical degree from the University of British Columbia in 1994 and completed a family practice residency at UBC’s Victoria site in 1996, followed by GP Anesthesia training in 2002.
After a decade of exclusively practicing anesthesia in Campbell River, Dr Young returned to UBC to complete Royal College anesthesiology training, receiving his FRCPC in 2016. He completed a fellowship in perioperative anesthesia through UBC and McMaster University in 2018 and was appointed Clinical Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Anesthesia, Pharmacology and Therapeutics in 2020. He currently serves as Medical Director for the Vancouver Acute Preadmission Clinic and Perioperative Anesthesia.
His clinical interests include presurgical patient optimization, obstructive sleep apnea, same-day discharge lower limb arthroplasty, point-of-care ultrasound, and quality improvement and patient safety.
