Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Adult Ambulatory Anesthesia Webinar

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), whether diagnosed prior or suspected on the day of surgery, can pose many challenges for safe perioperative care. Anesthesiologists are commonly tasked with providing preoperative directives for the care of OSA patients, reducing patient risk with anesthesia care tailored to avoid the hazards associated with OSA, and coordinating appropriate postoperative patient disposition. As ambulatory surgery becomes increasingly common, establishing a patient’s safe discharge from hospital on the day of surgery requires insight and good clinical judgement. In this webinar we will review evidence and give direction to navigate guidelines of care in order to facilitate safe home discharge for OSA patients having ambulatory procedures.

After participating in this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify parameters that can influence the duration of OSA Patient postoperative continuous monitoring.
  2. Recognize unique aspects of anesthesia care for OSA patients having ambulatory procedures.
  3. Use an evidence-based algorithm as a basis for patient disposition following ambulatory procedures.

This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and approved by the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society. You may claim a maximum of 1 hour (credits are automatically calculated).
