The Society provides a collective voice for anesthesia professionals, with opportunities for input and ensuring support for numerous initiatives – all making a positive impact on the profession for over 75 years. Here’s how your CAS membership makes a difference on the national and global scale.
 
Demonstrate Professional Citizenship in Canada and Worldwide
  • Support the future of anesthesia in Canada with CAS membership offered to anesthesia residents nationwide on a complimentary basis for the entirety of their residency.
  • Have your interests represented on national and international committees focused on anesthesiology or medicine in general, extending CAS’ influence for the betterment of the profession on the global stage.
  • Contribute to providing safe, sustainable anesthesia and perioperative care in low resource settings across the world through CAS’ support of CASIEF (Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society International Education Fund). 
Engage and Elevate the Profession
  • Be part of a collective voice for the profession, with CAS advocating for member interests with government, media, and the Royal College.
  • Support best practices and patient safety, knowing membership dues allow for resources to be publicly available, including the annually updated Guidelines to Anesthesia.
  • Support advocacy and education for anesthesia sub-specialties with input into position statements and educational resources/events through CAS Sections. 
Promote Discovery and Innovation
  • Ensure the stability of anesthesia research in Canada through CARF (Canadian Anesthesia Research Foundation) - supporting Canadian researchers that are members of CAS.
  • Participate in CAIRS (Canadian Anesthetic Incident Reporting System), an anonymous reporting system for CAS members nationwide, developed to identify systemic issues to further enhance the safety and efficacy of anesthesia and pain management.
  • Survey members and participate in data collection to support anesthesia research and direct association initiatives (CAS administered surveys available to members only at a cost).
