Patients, learners, anesthesiologists and healthcare providers experience inequities as a result of systemic and structural racism, sexism, homophobia, and all forms of discrimination. As part of the Journal’s commitment to promote and advance equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility, neurodiversity, decolonization, and other social justice and advocacy initiatives within anesthesiology and critical care medicine, the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia / Journal canadien d’anesthésie is commissioning a Special Issue on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. 

For this Special Issue, we welcome and plan to highlight original research, surveys, systematic reviews, reflections, and special articles as they relate to equity, diversity, and inclusion in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. We welcome research from all paradigms and global perspectives. All submissions will undergo rigorous peer review.

• Call for papers: October 1st, 2026, aligning with Global Diversity Awareness Month. Authors are kindly asked to indicate on their cover letter whether the submission is to be considered for the Special Issue.

• Publication date: December 10th, 2027, coinciding with Human Rights Day
