This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and approved by the Canadian Anesthesiologists' Society. You may claim a maximum of 1 hour (credits are automatically calculated).

The Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society (CAS) is proud to be celebrating 80 years of being the national specialty society for anesthesiology in Canada. Since our inception in 1943 we have grown from five members and a single committee to an organization with a full board of directors, multiple committees and 14 sections focused on a variety of sub-specialties.

In our 80 years we’ve had some incredible milestones, from publishing the Guidelines for Standards of Practice, the first guidelines by any anesthesia society, to creating the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia. Join us to celebrate our 80th year just before the upcoming World Anesthesia Day (October 16, 2023) to learn more about your national society.

After participating in this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe major milestones in the history of the CAS

  1. Evaluate the historical circumstances and antecedents of the CAS's founding

  1. Appreciate the evolution of CAS and its relation to the changing landscape of the specialty of anesthesiology in Canada and abroad
