Dr Vivian Ip

Dr Vivian Ip completed her medical education in the United Kingdom, beginning with two years in internal medicine and earning her MRCP before embarking on seven years of anesthesia training in London. She went on to complete an ambulatory and research fellowship with Dr Francis Chung at Toronto Western Hospital, as well as a Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine fellowship with Dr Ban Tsui at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton.

She earned the rank of Clinical Professor at the University of Alberta before moving to the University of Calgary, where she now works at South Health Campus — Calgary’s leading centre for Regional Anesthesia. Locally, Dr Ip serves as Director of Regional Anesthesia and Director of the Regional Anesthesia Fellowship Program.

Nationally, she has chaired both the Environmental Sustainability Section and the Regional Anesthesia Section of the Canadian Anesthesiologists’ Society (CAS). Internationally, she holds several leadership positions, including Chair of the ASRA Pain Medicine Newsletter Committee, Chair of the Green Anesthesia Special Interest Group at ASRA Pain Medicine, and member of the Sustainability Committee at the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists.

Dr Ip is also the Editor for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (RAPM), a member of the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia (CJA) Editorial Board, and will serve as Handling Guest Editor for CJA’s Sustainability portfolio in summer 2025.
