Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee

Positions Available – 2-4
Roles – Members

Members At Large members act as program reviewers and are responsible for reviewing content submissions and selecting topics and sessions in a transparent, impartial, and timely manner. They establish the selection criteria and review all submissions. They also assist with special projects as required.
The Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee (AMSPC) was established as the scientific planning committee for the CAS Annual Meeting, tasked with the comprehensive planning and execution of the event's scientific program, as well as overseeing abstract competitions and presentations. Their primary objective is to curate a program that offers our members the highest quality content.

The time commitment would require attending 3-6 virtual committee meetings throughout the year with additional correspondence in between meetings. The completion of reviews of content proposals for the Annual Meeting would occur in November/December 2026.


Abstracts Subcommittee
 
Positions Available – 2-4
Roles – Abstract reviewers. We require members with expertise in subspecialities related to CAS’ various sections (i.e. obstetrics, neuroanesthesia etc.)

The CAS Abstracts Subcommittee ensures the fair and timely review of all abstract submissions for the Annual Meeting. They are a subcommittee of the Annual Meeting Scientific Program Committee. They are responsible for reviewing and scoring all abstract and case reports/series that are submitted via the online submission platform, as well as annually reviewing the abstracts eligibility guidelines.  

The time commitment would require attending 1-2 virtual committee meetings throughout the year and the completion of reviews in late January/early February 2026.
 


The Quality and Patient Safety Committee

CAS Awards Committee

The CAS Awards Committee (AC) was established to adjudicate the CAS Honour Awards Program, ensuring that the awards are bestowed on those individuals who have distinguished themselves by the character of their contribution to CAS, the profession, or the community. The AC reviews and sets the categories, the eligibility criteria, nomination rules, and scoring guidelines, and selects the recipients having reviewed and considered the qualities, qualifications, and contributions of all nominees.


Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Committee

The CAS Membership Committee aims to boost membership engagement and expand its membership base. The primary goal is to ensure CAS offers value for its members resulting in strong member satisfaction and growth. The committee aims to help CAS reconnect with unrenewed members, offering them renewed value and opportunities for professional growth, while also attracting new members from across Canada’s Anesthesia Care Team (ACT). Through targeted outreach, engaging events, and resources tailored to the needs of our members, the committee strives to create a unified voice that enhances quality of care for patients and supports the continued growth of CAS .

We are looking for candidates who represent the following categories:  

  • Family Practice Anesthesia (FPA)  
  • Anesthesia Assistant 
  • Anesthesiologist working in a rural/community setting 
  • Recent Graduate in their first five years of practice 
  • Resident Representative 

Continuing Education and Professional Development (CEPD)

The CEPD Committee provides expertise on Maintenance of Certification and continuing professional development to the CAS Office and its committees and sections, as well as to external applicants for accreditation, forming the Society’s accreditation body for continuing medical education.”


Critical Care Section

The initial goal of the section was to provide and improve care for critically ill patients that anesthesiologists represent across Canada. However, the section has evolved to provide additional training and educational resources for those interested in the area but without formal ties to critical care.
 


Physician Wellness Committee

The Physician Wellness Committee is seeking passionate physician volunteers to help advance well-being in our specialty. The committee promotes a culture of collegiality and respect, develops strategies to address burnout, and supports resilience and professional fulfillment for anesthesiologists across Canada. We welcome physicians at any career stage who are committed to wellness, bring diverse perspectives, and want to collaborate nationally to create meaningful change.


Research Advisory Committee

The Research Advisory Committee’s (RAC) most visible activity is overseeing, on behalf of CARF, the administration of the CAS Research Awards Program that offers annual Operating Grants and the Career Scientist Award. RAC is also responsible for advising the CAS Board on the promotion of anesthesia research in Canada and maintaining a watching brief on medical research in Canada to ensure that the Society remains responsive to trends and initiatives as they develop.


Hospital Chiefs of Anesthesia Section

Role - Secretary-Treasurer

The Hospital Chiefs of Anesthesia provides a forum for Chiefs to create and build a vision and mission for leadership of clinical departments and anesthesia services in Canada. Section membership consists of chiefs and local chiefs of anesthesia in Canadian hospitals. Responsibilities include managing the overall functioning of the section as a member of the Executive, management of finances, and supporting the Chair/Vice Chair with organizing CAS Annual Meeting sessions.
