Originally from Montreal, Lucie Filteau became a Registered Respiratory Therapist and worked for several years at the Montreal Children’s Hospital PICU/NICU. She then completed a BSc in Psychology/Neuroscience at Concordia, followed by medical school at McMaster University. Lucie went on to pursue her Anesthesia Residency in Ottawa and has been on staff at The Ottawa Hospital (TOH) since. In her early career, she served as the Undergraduate Director in Anesthesia as well as a Royal College examiner. In 2013, she sought out additional leadership training in Quality and Patient Safety (QPS) and has led a variety of multidisciplinary QI task forces at TOH. She is the Vice Chair of Quality and Patient Safety in her department and represents Anesthesia at the hospital level QPS Committee.
 
Lucie has been the recipient Undergraduate Teaching Awards, Mentorship Awards and the TOH Patient Safety Star, in recognition of her outstanding contribution to Patient Safety. She has also received 3 TOH Guardian Angel awards, as a result of nominations submitted by patients under her care.
 
Her volunteer activities with the CAS date back to 2005 and she has served membership roles on the Section for Education and Simulation in Anesthesia, the Annual Meeting Committee, the Standards Committee, CAIRS and the Quality and Patient Safety Committee (the latter as Chair). In September 2022 she began her term as CAS President.  
 
Lucie unwinds by designing original creations out of LEGO^TM bricks. She casually picked up this hobby 7 years ago, and it quickly turned into a passion which has gained her considerable recognition. She has been featured on local and national news and has exhibited her award-winning work at LEGO^TM conventions internationally.
